eating isn’t shameful. you aren’t ugly just because you’ve gained weight. calories are necessary. treating yourself is okay. please take care of yourself. your body loves you and depends on you to help it function properly.
The 2019 ACA (Affordable Care Act) enrollment period has been shortened from 90 days to 45 days (November 1-December 15, 2018) and the advertising budget to promote open enrollment has been slashed in an effort to sabotage the program. You’re probably not seeing a lot of advertising (read: zero) about the enrollment window online or on TV.
As California is being ravaged by deadly fires, let’s remember that over a third of California’s firefighters are incarcerated.
They’re out there now risking their lives, making 1% or less of nonincarcerated firefighters’ salaries, and then they can’t even serve as firefighters when they get out because of their past convictions.
As of today, November 17, 2018, any post with links, any links, even to other tumblr posts, just don’t show up anymore in tumblr’s search engine.
I just found out about it, after I posted a fic with a link to my masterlist and it got little to no notes (it shuldn’t). I was right – the moment I deleted the links, my post magically appeared in the search again. Wow.
To anyone with an eating disorder on Thanksgiving: I know it’s scary. Stay safe. You deserve to enjoy your dinner. Treat yourself kindly after you eat. You can do this, and I love you.
I can agree with most people that the live-action Grinch is far from a great movie, but this scene always kills me.
FUNNY BIT OF TRIVIA ABOUT THIS SCENE.
When the Grinch yanks the tablecloth away, everything on the table was supposed to fall. But Jim Carrey did it so expertly, all of the objects stayed right where they were! So the Grinch running back and messing everything up was improvised by Jim =)
THAT’S AWESOME
Also I love the push of the table it’s so extra it’s great
“Far from a great movie”
it IS a great movie.
Ok but like unless there’s some dirt on this movie idk about, this movie is… So Great??? “Far from a great movie” – what were you watching? Like I can agree that they added a lot in terms of his childhood and that lady who had to choose between him and a corrupt richass mayor. It’s cheesy at times and over the top… But like???
Almost all of the weird additions just added to the satire and ridicule of hyperconsumerist societies and capitalism. The automatic Christmas light gun? The near-injury-causing decorating wars? The entire cheermeister scene? The mayor was unapologetically portrayed as a rich asshole fuckboi who never learned the emotional coping skills to handle that a person he likes might not be into him (and may actually be into a depressed green furry).
Honestly the Grinch’s lines when he was alone especially were comedic gold, and ahead of their time in terms of meme-abililty.
I think the reasons people don’t like the movie are because 1.) admittedly, it didn’t really capture the feel of a Dr. Seuss story, least of all the one this movie was based on (even though a shift in tone isn’t inherently a bad thing; people love the 80’s Ninja Turtles cartoon despite being quite a bit more lighthearted than the comics it was based on), and 2.) the Whos are portrayed in quite the opposite way of how they’re portrayed in the original book. In the book, though they enjoy the decorations and presents and such, they don’t complain once when they wake up to those things being gone. Instead, they sing their hearts out again. In the live-action movie, they are DESTROYED, and it takes one wiser Who to open their eyes and start singing despite their newfound lack.
Personally, I don’t let these flaws ruin the movie for me. Hell, movie adaptions like this one can be good despite – or in some cases, BECAUSE of – differences from the original. I mean, so many films by Disney kinda prove my point.
I agree wholeheartedly. Like I love the original story, and Dr Seuss’ whimsical air is amazing in movie-form when executed right. But I think the live action movie with its tone shift, had different things to say and said them pretty darn well, in a way it couldn’t if it hadn’t had the Grinch specifically
