the line literally enables girls to create a doll that looks like them
including a wide array of non-white skin tones and non-european features
like black dolls with curly and textured hair
or asian dolls that appear to have epicanthic folds
and they’ve also released accessories like doll-sized wheelchairs, hearing aids, and crutches so that girls who aren’t able-bodied or are hard of hearing can have a little friend who shares their experiences
and they’ve even begun to offer dolls without hair for little girls who have alopecia or have lost hair while battling cancer
and basically if you don’t think that’s the tightest shit then get out of my face

They also consulted the Nez Pierce when making their Kaya doll and that’s why her smile doesn’t show teeth, among other things, and they’ve released some beautiful, and accurate, modern Powwow regalia for her.
Also they’ve been offering all this stuff since I was still getting the catalog. I just turned 29, so if I’m going to guess, that means they’ve been offering these options since at least 1996ish.
This is so important. I didn’t have one of those big dolls that are like young girls, but I had an American Girl baby doll. She had dark hair, dark eyes, darker-than-white skin close to my mom’s tone, and epicanthic folds. I called her my baby sister when I was little. At that age, I remember being really attracted to any celebrity or character of a girl/woman who had an Asian appearance (or had some vaguely similar attributes like black hair, didn’t matter what nationality) – Mulan, Sagwa, Buttercup from PPG, snow white, Kristi Yamaguchi, if they had short black hair or were asian I probly loved em and/or dressed up as them for Halloween. I was starving for representation (and honestly the representation I did have tended to be very stereotypical and trope-y). And I have fair skin and no physical conditions that require aids. So I can only imagine what it’s like for kids with visible disabilities and/or dark skin who have much less representation. This is so important.
He was sexually assault and he is pressing charges. But as a straight [dark skin, black] man coming through and admitted he’s been sexually assaulted he’s getting some backlash from misogynistic, toxic masculinity filled, stupid people [men and women]. But I’m not one of them. I’m glad he’s speaking up and admitting what happened and not taking this too lightly.

so that youcaring i had is gone now, effectively shuttered in the buyout by gofundme, but i’m still in a huge need. my teeth were smashed out in a transphobic hate crime a while ago and i’m trying desperately to get them fixed in whatever way i can. i was able to get one piece completed but the rest of the damage is severe enough that we’re having to figure out temporary means to prevent my jaw from forcing itself out of the socket with chewing and biting motions, and even speaking has been painful this last week. i’m going to get a new fund thing set up as soon as i can go through the lot and see the fees and stuff, but in the meanwhile i’m hurting bad and might have to make another emergency visit very very soon. the one bright spot right now is that i have a job interview for a spot that i’m really qualified and experienced at tomorrow, so fingers crossed that i can possibly get insurance that will help me soon, but i still need to figure out what i can do right now. if you can contribute anything, i’m at paypal.me/awesomandias, or manicpixietransgrrrl@gmail.com, and every little bit adds up. thank you all so so fucking much for sharing this or donating, i appreciate it from the bottom of my lil black heart ❤
