Every time I find a take like this in the wild, I am going to share it, because it is just so fucking bizzare. These people honestly believe that capitalism is like an eternal principle. No wonder our society is so messed up.
Humans have organized themselves in countless ways. A system based on private property and wage labor has only existed for 300 years.
This is literally a pathology. Call it out when you see it.
Interestingly enough…out of the countless ways human societies have been organized, literally zero have actually been based on a barter system. The “prehistoric man” (at some time…somewhere…) “trading arrowheads for furs” idea is a fantasy that Adam Smith had, which economists have been repeating as fact ever since.
This is one hundred percent true. Everybody go read Debt: The First 5000 Years by David Graeber
So many claim that human nature is to take over territory and hoard wealth and make war for profit. And yes, humans have fought and had disputes longer than we’ve been human. But compassion and empathy are also natural traits of humans. It’s seen in anthropology, in animal behavioralist’s studies, and is no less a part of our natural inclinations than selfishness. The Age of Empathy by Frans de Waal is a good read on this subject.
The Spanish National Police charged at several Amazon workers Tuesday in the logistics center of San Fernando de Henares, in the outskirts of Madrid, who are participating in the three-day strike against the company’s efforts to reduce workers’ rights.
On Tuesday, workers on strike shared videos through social media showing how members of the national police attacked them. According to local media reports three workers have been detained and one was injured.
Workers on strike have also called on consumers to boycott Amazon in solidarity with their struggle. Organizers gathered outside the San Fernando de Henares center, where they chanted “There is, there is, there is no other way. With the bosses, or with the working class.”
During the first day of the strike the Comisiones Obreras (CCOO) Amazon said 80 percent of the workforce participated in the strike, affirming those who were working were temporary workers who have been threatened by local management.
The strike was organized for Amazon’s Prime Day, when the company offers discounts and there are high sales levels. Workers are specifically protesting wage cuts, working conditions and restrictions on time off.
Spanish state takes the side of capital and Amazon over the workers.

Okoumou, a naturalized citizen, was released on her own recognizance today, July 5, after being arrested yesterday for climbing to the foot of the Statue of Liberty. Her attorney, Rhiya Trivedi, is representing her pro bono. She will be back in court August 3.
Here is Okoumou’s full statement:
Good afternoon everyone, thank you for being here. It’s been a rough 24 hours for me and some of you. I wanna thank Rise and Resist [crowd cheering] for their dedication in the work that they do, for their support for equality and social justice.
As you know by now I am from the Republic of Congo. I came in this country 1994.
I also wanna thank the United States Park Police, more specifically Officer D’Alessandro, they’ve been very very wonderful to me. Talking about respect, courtesy, professionalism, I think the NYPD can learn something or two from them, from the United States Park Police.
Michelle Obama, our beloved First Lady that I care so much about, said “When they go low, we go high,” and I went as high as I could. [laughter and cheers]
Trump has wrecked this country apart. It is depressing, it is outrageous. I can say a lot of things about this monster, but I will stop at this: His draconian zero-tolerance policy on immigration has to go. In a democracy we do not rip children — we do not put children in cages. Period. There is no debating it. Nothing you can say to me will justify putting children in cages. Only a stupid unintelligent coward, an insecure — I will add a maniac — will rip a tender-age child from its mother. Reunite the children now. Thank you very much, ladies and gentlemen.
It seems that Okoumou is not in need of donations for now, and there are no official funding campaigns set up for her now, but if that changes I will post that information as soon as possible. You can also follow Rise and Resist on Twitter for more updates.
everyday i must reconsider pursuing a career in animation because of how much targeted harassment there is online from both entitled old men and entitled teenagers towards female creators
You can still do it, just keep your online presence incognito to avoid any extra attention.
Really, I don’t know why industry folks even bother with having any level of social presence anymore. There was a golden era of fan and crew interaction, but its passed now and that era isn’t coming back. I feel like we should just be inaccessible now it’s just better for everyone.
This makes me really sad. I SUPPORT FEMALE, WOMEN, AND FEMME ANIMATION CREATORS
