I was in hospital for 5 days this week staying in a mental illness ward and during that time they told me I have BPT (borderline personality traits) which can later be diagnosed at an older age. They’re hopeful I can treat it before then, but I’m unsure how to deal with so many things right now. It’s very scary for me, especially seeing how it’s effected my relationships. It goes along with an anxiety disorder I have. I’m not sure where to look for help !
hi anon,
Getting a diagnosis, or having doctors, or anyone, bring something to your attention and point something else can be really difficult and overwhelming. It makes sense that you would feel so overwhelmed right now.
The best thing you can do is to seek out professional help and support for this. It’s important to process these things and like they said, try to treat it now rather than later.
There are some great treatments for BPD or the traits of it. I would encourage you to look into a therapist who is specialized or knowledgable in BPD. DBT is one of the best therapies for BPD or the traits so i would definitely push you to look at DBT centers. If you are able to do a “full” DBT program, that would be ideal (group, individual, phone coaching).
As far as the relationship stuff, it is so helpful to be aware of it, and address it (therapy would be a good place…its A HUGE part of DBT as well). When you feel yourself doing things that may be harmful try to stop it and think of what is healthy and what would be a healthy relationship for you. It takes a lot of work but it can be done.

I made a post like this a while ago when I first started to use tumblr. It was pretty brief and choppily written (in my opinion) so as I’ve said, I decided to remake this with more explanation/research included…
