Tbh after Sandyhook, that was when I knew the conversation surrounding guns in America was dead. If nothing was done when these babies were murdered, nothing will ever be done

America didn’t. care. when 1st grade Children were massacred. There is nothing in the world that is going to stop guns in the USA. Not a damn thing.

We all know this. And it’s nauseating.

^^^ my grandparents and their entire families werent incarcerated for years without any charges or due process as kids, forced to abandon the almost-ready harvest that was their only income, the private property that they couldn’t carry or sell for 1/10 of the cost, their livestock, friends, neighbors, and everything they had built for themselves, just to be forgotten by some white people who want to justify keeping their assault rifles.

Also, disabled people of all races (including white) were forcibly detained, experimented on without consent, abused, and sexually assaulted for decades. So.

Look, I became a teacher for a lot of reasons.
Not for the money, because we sure as hell dont get paid enough.
Not for the ease of it, since its one of the most stressful professions.
Not for the glory, since theres little to go around.

I went into teaching because I like my subject. I like YA books. I like writing. I like finding the hidden meanings and the craft in poetry and short stories. I like showing that craft to others. I like helping thoughts become words.

I went into teaching because I like that it makes me a lifelong learner. New ways to teach, new activities to try, new techniques to master.

I went into teaching most of all because I like kids. I like teaching kids and talking to kids. I like how excited they are to tell you about things they care about. I like how funny they can be, how open to self discovery they are, how impressed by new information.

I would do nearly anything to stay a teacher. I give up my very little time off for field trips and professional developments and conferences. I give up my money for pencils and crayons and glue and notebooks. I give up my evenings to grade papers and write lesson plans.

But Ill be damned if anyone tells me I should bring a fucking gun into my classroom. If anyone tells me I should be ready and willing to shoot one of my students. That I need to be a human shield and a killer to do my job. Fuck that and fuck you and fuck all of it.

Don’t you fucking dare ask me to kill children because you won’t consider any real change.

I’m a professor-in-training, not an elementary or high school teacher, but every bit of the above reblog applies to me as well. I’m in this profession because I love to teach and inspire the next generation. Fuck anyone who says I should be packing heat just to do my job.

It’s not a teacher’s job to stop mass shootings. It’s Congress’ job to make sure they never, ever happen in the first place.

Period.

to repair the metaphor it’ll need to be “cars invented specifically to kill people”

they’re called tanks and they’re…frowned upon

BEEP BEEP IT’S A HOBBY

i mean…not all guns are designed to kill people. some are designed to kill animals. like, ya know. for food.

I’M JUST A HUMBLE SETTLER TRYNA PUT A FOX ON THE TABLE FOR MY WIFE AND KIDS

EXCEPT THAT ARGUMENT IS BULLSHIT

CARS ARE FUCKING REGULATED TO HELL AND BACK

THEY HAVE TO HAVE SEAT BELTS

YOU HAVE TO /WEAR/ THE SEAT BELTS

YOU HAVE TO TRAIN FOR A YEAR IN HOW TO USE ONE

YOU HAVE TO PASS A TEST TO PROVE YOU KNOW HOW TO USE ONE

IF YOU FUCK UP AND USE IT IRRESPONSIBLY, THERE ARE FINES AND YOUR LICENSE CAN BE REVOKED

THIS WHOLE FUCKING ARGUMENT IS BULLSHIT

Also, there are MORE DANGEROUS vehicles and those are EVEN MORE regulated!

You can’t drive your race car on the roads! You have to trailer them to and from race tracks

Cars DID KILL A FUCK TON OF PEOPLE, and honestly still do, so you know what we did?

We created a whole fucking government agency to regulate them (see: Department of Motor Vehicles),
We created laws to govern their responsible use (it hasn’t ENDED ALL misuse but it sure as fuck decreased the commonality of accidents/deaths)
We have police ESPECIALLY DEDICATED to patrolling and keeping an eye on people who use cars to make sure they’re using them correctly!

So no, maybe we didn’t outright BAN cars, BUT WE TOOK A RESPONSIBLE FUCKING STEP AND CREATED REGULATIONS AND LAWS AND STUDIED CAUSES OF MOTOR VEHICLE DEATHS

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Excellent discourse but that beep beep tank image is fucking killing me XD

Also like cars have the practical application of being able to take us to places when we need to go. Whereas hunting for your own food hasn’t been a need for the vast majority of our country for decades, but a willful choice a person makes.
