me and rhys have been talking about this and i’m probably just gonna put what he said in this too but basically it’s about buzzfeed and how there really isn’t much for gay women. you’ve probably already seen the multiple posts i make about it lmao.

basically all the quizzes are like “we know your taste in men” and variations of that. they don’t seem to have a consistent idea about anything because one week they’re like omg so queer!!! and the next they’re publishing articles about how bisexual women aren’t gay enough and they have to choose either being “fully gay” or straight.

they seem to pander to and capitalize on only white gay men most of the time and there really isn’t anything for lesbians/bisexual women/pansexual women.

fckin:

good argument: white passing people have privilege because they are not effected by colorism and they should use this advantage to help others but we shouldn’t invalidate their identity + even though they may look white and their experiences aren’t akin to those who don’t that doesn’t make them exempt from all forms of racism especially even within their own communities

bad argument: white passing poc are white

Getting rid of nazis on your blog

queeranarchism:

Hey, if you’re sick of nazis on your Tumblr but you keep on having to block new ones, Tumblr’s most recent experimental feature can probably really help you out. It’s called Reblog Graphs and you can test it here

Basically, what it does is show you a network of how your post was reblogged and who were big influencers in getting lots of reblogs. That’s useful in general but extra usefull if you want to know who to block to get rid of shit on your dash.

For example, this post that I wrote got a lot of notes and when I use Reblog Graphs is generates this graph:

I’m the yellow dot and all the other dots are reblogs, the bigger the dot, the most reblogs originated from that reblog. Next, I can click on the dots and see who they are and what content they added. For example:

When @thatdiabolicalfeminist reblogged my post the result was a lot of supportive reblogs, helpful feedback and conversations that I want to have.

But check out the other cluster:

When wogbeginatcalais reblogged my post the result was a stream of hateful comments by white supremacist, nazi blogs and nazi trolls. Not stuff I want and one reblog started all of it.

I had blocked a lot of white supremacist blogs when the hate started, but according to Reblog Graph I missed out on quite a lot of the most important blogs that were causing my post to be noticed by these shits in the first place. By blocking key nazi dots in this chain, I can now more effectively stop nazi shits from finding my posts. Good to know!

That’s all. Happy Tumblring.

lesbians don’t need condoms in their bedside tables. they need hair ties.

I mean condoms are so good for women to have safe sex with. You can put your fingers in them for safe fingering or you can turn them into dental dams for safe eating, or you can put them on a dildo to prevent the spreading of germs as long as you put a new one on for every person and orifice. Also trans women exist. Safe sex is important y’all.

Hey if you want to grow a veggie garden and want to repel insects without hurting the bees you can consider:

  • Flowers like marigolds and nasturtiums repel most insects.
  • Herbs like catnip and peppermint can also repel most insects. Do some research, there’s an herb for almost every bug.
  • Some natural insecticides don’t effect bees, like neem oil, bacillus thuringiensis kurstaki (usually just called btk but if you google that you get the serial killer), and certain insecticidal soaps.
  • And you can even do some googling and order live ladybugs or beneficial wasps to release into your garden.

It might seem like people pushing for less chemical use in home gardens are closely aligned with the ‘gmos will give you cancer’ crowd, but the problem with insecticides is not only do they kill the bees in your garden (which still adds up), but some of them, like neonicotinoids, can be carried back to the hive and kill the entire hive, and those numbers really add up. (Anecdote: It happened to a local bee keeper, entire hives of his just started dying in the middle of spring.) And please always carefully read the labels or ask around while shopping for any live plants, as harmful chemicals may have already been applied.

When I was 17 my appendix ruptured because I thought I was just having period cramps and didn’t go to the hospital so don’t tell me PMS symptoms are no big deal

this actually happened to me during my math final and i didn’t think anything of it and when i was later admitted to the hospital my math prof was asking me ‘you didn’t have to take the final! why didn’t you tell me it hurt?!?!’ and i told him i’ve had cramps worse.

he gave me 100

This is actually an extremely common occurrence simply because in sex ed they don’t teach you how to tell the difference between menstrual cramps and other more serious pains. The way to tell the difference between cramps and appendicitis is that while menstrual cramps are generalized toward the middle of the stomach below the belly button, pain from a swollen or burst appendix will start in the middle of the stomach and relocate to only the lower right side, even lower than menstrual cramps, and is a very localized pain. It also comes on extremely suddenly and will worsen over time or when you make a sudden movement, like a cough or a sneeze.

Basically, if you’re feeling any sort of pain, even if it’s menstrual cramps, don’t hesitate to tell the school nurse or a parent, or if you’re out of school and home even make a doctor’s appointment. Chances are if your cramps are that bad there’s something they can do to improve that as well.

I am boosting the shit out of that reply, because I am twenty-fucking-five years old and did not know how to tell the two pains apart

Adding another diagnostic tool! This is something we use in the ER called the rebound test. Basically, appendicitis and cramps react differently to certain things. If you’re still not sure if you have cramps or appendicitis, take two fingers and press them into your abdomen where the pain is (try repeating this on the lower right quadrant of the abdomen just to be sure.)

When you press in firmly, it will probably hurt. Here’s the test: LET GO. Does it get better or get worse? Appendicitis will immediately hurt worse when you let go. Cramps will not. Go to the ER if the rebound test makes it worse!

THE REBOUND TEST IS REALLY IMPORTANT.

My husband got sent home from the ER with a rupturing appendix. When he came back and was rushed into surgery, the surgeon was super angry – “Why didn’t anyone do the rebound test?!”

All great info, but there is another lesson to be learned here: if you’re in major pain, it’s probably important – so don’t let anyone tell you it’s not. There is a documented pattern of women who go to the ER with complaints of pain being dismissed as overreacting…when in reality women have an incredibly high tolerance for pain, to the point that some don’t even realize exactly how serious their condition is. These stories only serve to illustrate this point.

I did the rebound test on a coworker once. It was the most awkward moment we’ve ever shared, because we were not close enough for me to be poking her abdomen with my fingers. But I’d be damned if I was going to let her die of a ruptured appendix when I actually knew something useful for once.

Reblogging for the ‘rebound test’, which I’d never heard of before this post.

I’ve done the rebound test on my kids and husband during illnesses that caused belly pain. I don’t fuck around if it could be their appendix.

At 11, I had my appendix rupture into my digestive tract rather than out into my abdomen, and no one believed me for almost a day. They even went as far as to say I must have eaten too much candy.

I nearly died, and spent about a week in the hospital, getting my blood tested several times a day, and miserable from the pain and continuing infection.

To this day my folks blame me nearly dying on eating too much candy and causing my appendicitis, completely ignoring the fact that until I threw a massive tantrum and screamed and cried, they wouldn’t even take me into the ER to get checked out.
