Unfriendly fucking reminder that the best predictor of mass shootings is not mental illness, but being an angry young white man who has recently experienced rejection and has easy access to guns.

Bringing this back because it makes terrible people angry. And I’ll add a note to all the people saying “But you’d have to be mentally ill to do that!”: Mental illness is, by definition, abnormal. Does “mediocre white boy is so entitled that he resorts to violence when told no” really sound particularly unusual to you?

I devoted my entire graduate studies and thesis on mass school shootings, multiple murderers, and criminal psychology and I can tell you that this is in fact completely true and is suported by an unbelievable amount of emperical, quantifiable data that I slaved over for years. 💯

The Trap (2016)

“For 11 years, the bestselling author Linda Conrads has mystified fans by never setting foot outside her home. Haunted by the unsolved murder of her younger sister–who she discovered in a pool of blood–and the face of the man she saw fleeing the scene, Linda’s hermit existence helps her cope with debilitating anxiety. But the sanctity of her oasis is shattered when she sees her sister’s murderer on television.

Hobbled by years of isolation, Linda resolves to use the plot of her next novel to lay an irresistible trap for the man. As the plan is set in motion and the past comes rushing back, Linda’s memories–and her very sanity–are called into question. Is this man a heartless killer or merely a helpless victim?“

How do you not read this book after seeing that cover

Tumblr tends to be very America-centric so can we just turn our eyes for a minute to the UK

Specifically to this woman.

Earlier today, Jo Cox, a Labour MP in Northern England, was stabbed and shot at an event in a library.

It has just been confirmed that she has died due to the attack.

She was a great campaigner and humanitarian, and has left behind a husband and two children.

This kind of event happens rarely in the UK, and so this is terrifying and destabilising that such a horrific thing has happened to such a compassionate person.

Can thoughts on Tumblr turn to the UK today please, and turn to remember a woman who has been brutally murdered after a lifetime of trying to build a better country.

Guys, I’m begging you to reblog this
Jo Cox was a representative, and she was shot while meeting with her constituents.
She has been very vocally advocating for Syrian refugees to enter Britain, and was shot by a man who allegedly shouted “Britain first” several times.
She died within an hour.
<b>Please give her death and life the attention it deserves.

After he was shot, 9-year-old snuggled up to his big brother and died, dad says.

Two kids were killed early Saturday morning when a gunman sprayed bullets into the family home where they were sleeping.

At the moment there were 6 children in the house. Grieving father can’t stand the pain after he knew that his 9-year-old son Jayden Ugwuh and the boy’s 8-year-old cousin Montell Ross are gone.

When Jayden was shot he didn’t hesitate and headed for his elder brother Jayson Jr. Little hero snuggled up to him covering his body and protecting him from bullets. Jayson woke up and saw his little brother hugging him with his eyes open but it was clear he was no longer there.

Jayden’s dad says his son loved to draw and to rap. He believed in super heroes, had big dreams and wanted to fly. He was also an excellent artist, his dad explained proudly.

Innocent kids taken for no reason. Apparently, there’s no safe place for Black people…

#HandeKader

Hande Kader was a trans woman living in Istanbul who had been missing for over a week. Her burned body was found and identified this week. LGBTQ+ advocates are walking this Sunday in Istanbul in her honor. The media is all but ignoring this horrific murder. Remember her name. #HandeKader #HandeKadereSesVer (give Hande Kader a voice)

This photo was taken last year during the Pride Walk in Istanbul, where she was subjected to police brutality as she opposed the police’s attempts to stop the walk by force.

[August 9th] is International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples.

When members of Juan Francisco Martínez’s community found his body in January 2015, his body bore marks of torture. One of his hands was still tied with what appeared to be laces from military boots.

Juan, a human rights defender and indigenous Lenca man from Honduras, was found on 5 January 2015 in the village of Tapuyman in the Santa Elena Municipality of La Paz, Honduras. He had been killed the day before.

For more than a year prior to his murder, Juan and his family received death threats related to his activism.

Juan was a member of the Lenca Independent Movement of La Paz (MILPAH). He fought for his community’s rights to water and land. Human rights defenders from MILPAH — like defenders of indigenous peoples’ rights around the world — face extreme risks from governments, corporations, and other non-state actors, including violent armed groups. Members of MILPAH, including 2016 Front Line Defenders Award Winner Ana Mirian Romero, have been threatened and assaulted. Others have been killed.

Indigenous peoples’ rights defenders work in some of the most dangerous conditions in the world, and are often removed from urban networks of support and protection.

Their battle for rights is intimately tied to their food and water security, and their struggles often intersect with fights for land and environmental rights.

To mark International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples on 9 August, Front Line Defenders is honouring the work of 4 human rights defenders who face immense risks advocating on behalf of their own indigenous communities.

To support the work of these incredible individuals at risk, learn more about them below and share their stories. To learn more about human rights defenders working on Land, Environmental, and Indigenous Peoples’ Rights, visit FrontLineDefenders.org.

Black trans femme writer Venus Selenite calling attention to the murder of Goddess Diamond, a black trans woman in New Orleans, on June 5. I hadn’t heard anything about this until just now. I know we’re all going through a lot after the Pulse shooting, but please don’t forget that black trans feminine people are living through this every single day.

Goddess Diamond’s family has set up a burial assistance fundraiser: https://www.gofundme.com/28b4atw
