prokopetz:

I know folks mean well, but arguing that Article 13 will deprive media corporations of the free advertising furnished by Internet memes and fan media isn’t going to get you anywhere because that’s the entire point.

The whole idea of Article 13 – and the push toward copyright overreach more generally – is to make self-publishing (of all kinds, not just fan media) so onerous that only folks who operate under the auspices of corporate backers can afford to do it.

i.e., they’re trying to roll back to the pre-Internet status quo when a tiny handful of publishing corporations had absolute control over all non-local media distribution channels, and – unless the author was independently wealthy – media was permitted to reach a wide audience only with their explicit approval.

The mechanism is pretty straightforward: Article 13 and legislation like it would establish a presumption in law that the corporate claimant in any copyright dispute is correct, and place the onus upon the author as a private individual to prove otherwise. At the time of this writing, the average cost of bringing a copyright dispute to court is in the neighborhood of $200 000. What private individual has that kind of money?

It’s not just about fan media. This type of legislation would allow publishing corporations to claim that they own anything they please, and hosting providers would be obliged to block distribution of that content purely on the claimant’s say-so, unless and until the dispute is resolved in court – and unless you’ve got two hundred grand to burn, that resolution will never happen.

Of course, there’d be remedies short of going to court – like, say, signing on with a publishing company yourself, so that they can “protect” your intellectual property on your behalf. See where this is going?

Pointing out the potential for short-term harm to publishing corporations’ bottom line is a non-starter because no amount of loss of exposure could possibly outweigh the benefits to the publishing corps if the long game pays off.

Which is really ironic since corporations and politicians don’t give a rat’s ass about long term damage to the economy/environment/healthcare/etc if it means a lot of short term profit.

Tfw you talk to a friend you haven’t in ages and it’s cool and then an ex friend is brought up and apparently they probly blame you for everything that was wrong with their life in college and literally won’t even acknowledge your existence when you’re brought up in conversation. And they claim that one mutual friend really took care of them (which is true) but never acknowledged the time, care, and careful effort you put in to making sure they were protected and ok, despite never really reciprocating. And you found out they unfriended you on facebook when you were going to their page to say happy birthday, cuz even tho you hadn’t talked in a long time, you wanted to wish them a good year. But they didn’t unfriend your mutual friend who literally did the same things that made them mad in the first place, and now they’re talking to said friend again. And then you have a dream about that person and you wake up in a bad mood, and realize that you really didn’t work through your feelings surrounding that person at all.

Yeah. That feeling. That universally relatable feeling.

Where to begin with all this

Sometimes I purposely have headphones in with no actual music to stop people from trying to talk to me. Enraging.

What incel wrote this article.

This is the only appropriate reaction since he wanna be all up in my face.

Even that image they have, the woman looks SUPER UNCOMFORTABLE. How do you even justify this garbage???

I purposely bought big obvious headphones so people would know i dont want to talk to them.

Why do these articles always promote ignoring manners? Why would you assume that women would find you attractive after you are continuously rude to them and refuse to take multiple subtle no’s for an answer? Please do none of the above. Dont wave your hand directly in our line of vision. Thats rude and annoying. Everyone understands you miming taking off your headphones, just cuz they don’t respond the way you want doesn’t mean they don’t understand. If they’re hesitant, it’s cuz they don’t want to talk to you. Women are not dreaming of meeting a guy more confident than them when they wear headphones, they dream of a guy getting the message and not bothering them on their commute. Women are not looking nice for you. Women are not waiting around for “an alpha male” to notice and bother them. If you aren’t allowing someone to ignore you, you’re literally making yourself SO OBNOXIOUS that you’re ignoring every sign that they DONT WANT TO INTERACT, and ignoring their wants and needs in favor your own selfish demands for attention.

“A woman doesn’t want to have to be forced to control an interaction with a guy, but she will if she has to”. This is true. But not for the reason they say. Women don’t want to be forced to interact, and we don’t want our boundaries pushed to the point where we have to tell you off. It has nothing to do with how “masculine” you are or aren’t.

gowns:

“In 1966, Ronald Reagan was elected governor of California on a promise to “clean up the mess at Berkeley,” which he described as “a haven for communist sympathizers, protesters, and sex deviants.” Reagan got the school’s president fired, attempted to cut the educational budget, and, in 1969, ordered an armed confrontation with student demonstrators who were protesting the war. Officers opened fire with shotguns and tear gas. One student, a bystander, was killed. Another was permanently blinded, and 32 were hospitalized with severe injuries.
On May 1, 1970, President Richard Nixon told an audience at the Pentagon: “You see these bums, you know, blowing up the campuses. Listen, the boys that are on the college campuses today are the luckiest people in the world, going to the greatest universities, and here they are burning up the books, storming around about [the Vietnam War].” Three days later, the Ohio National Guard opened fire on student protesters at Kent State University, leaving four students dead and nine wounded. On May 15, local police killed two black students and left twelve more wounded during a demonstration at Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi.
Somehow, despite decades’ worth of counterexamples, the American mainstream remains convinced that campus activists represent a unique threat to public safety and civil discourse.”

A bakery is facing legal action because it refused to write anti-gay comments on a cake for a customer

The customer bringing the claim against Azucar Bakery in Denver, Colorado, says he was the victim of ‘religious discrimination’ because they wouldn’t adorn cakes with the words ‘God hates gays’, and draw a picture of two men holding hands with a red cross above it.

Owner Marjorie Silva called the requests of Bill Jack ‘discriminatory and hateful’ and refused to decorate the cakes, saying: ‘We never refuse service. We did feel that it was not right for us to write hateful words or pictures against human beings.’

She did, however, offer to make Mr Jack the cakes and sell him some icing so her could decorate them himself.

Mr Jack was not satisfied with this response, telling a local news station he was being ‘discriminated against by the bakery based on my creed’.

He has filed a complaint with the Department of Regulatory Agencies, which have now placed the bakery under investigation, and could refer the complaint to the Colorado Civil Rights Commission if they feel that Mr Jack was being discriminated against.

Mr Jack is the head of the Worldview Academy, an organisation that exists to help people ‘think and live in accord with a Biblical worldview’.

Since the incident Ms Silva has received praise and support from people throughout the world who have contacted her via email.

Guys please spread this, I live here and I love this cake shop so much and would hate to see it get closed for something like this. The cakes there are absolutely phenomenal, and they even have gay and lesbian wedding cake toppers, and is the only cake store that has those in all of Denver, Golden, and Lakewood. Please don’t let this cake shop close.

Friendly Christian Reminder:

Saying “God Hates” is a violation of most of the New Testament. See also John 3:16-17, for starters. Numerous mentions of “God is love”.

Saying that you are without sin is a bold-faced lie; see Psalm 130 and Romans 3:20.

Passing judgement onto another person is a no-no; see Mathew 7:1-5.

Loving thy neighbor is one of the two most important commandments; Mark 12:31.

And that your ‘neighbor’ isn’t always another Christian; see Luke 10:25-37.

In short, stop using my religion to justify you being an ass-hat, Ass-hat.

❤ SUPPORT THIS AWESOME BAKERY ❤

It was only a matter of time before they would try this shit. To try and prove that it’s “hypocritical”.

What cops did at Chicago Pride:

1. Lead the parade instead of having community members do it

2. Had a Blue Lives Matter float, a movement and ideology that is explicitly and blatantly racist

3. Yelled with vitriol at an old woman near me for trying to cross the street too soon after the parade ended

What the cops did NOT do at Chicago Pride:

1. Protect me in any way

2. Make me feel safer in any demonstrable way

fuck cops

I don’t necessarily have something against all cops personally (many underprivileged people become cops because they didn’t make it to college/trade school/army). But as a profession, it’s extremely steeped in institutional racism and violence. Tbh I feel like they’re just using the LGBT community to make themselves look better and further their blue lives matter bull.

To the liberals already celebrating Trump’s executive order like it fixes anything

Dont be so premature.

Fuck. At this point he’s just setting fire to a bunch of different things, and then when people get upset, he’s like “well if Congress/everyone else would just do something it would be put out”, acting like “it’s the law so I can’t do anything about it” when he has the full power to put it out immediately since he ordered it in the first place. Even when it’s a fire not started by him, he’s like “ok make a bipartisan plan to put out the fire and I’ll approve it” *Congress makes a bipartisan plan* “Nope” *Congress makes ANOTHER bipartisan plan* “Nope” *Congress makes ANOTHER bipartisan plan but this one includes his beloved wall* “NOPE”. *International efforts to make a transatlantic trade agreement that actually addresses Canada’s tariffs on milk* “NOPE! *a year later* CANADA IS AWFUL, THEYRE PUTTING TARIFFS ON MILK TO PROTECT THEIR DAIRY ECONOMY, LIKE HOW WE PUT TARIFFS ON SOFT WOODS FOR THEM, BUT ITS SO UNFAIR”

Just so y’all know, Trail Life is a fucking joke and nobody should donate to them.

-BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA OFFICIAL UNIFORM COLORS-

Cub Scouts – Blue with a lot of bright colors, usually on kids 12 and under.

Webelos and Boy Scouts – Tan and a pale green, on anyone 12 and up.

Venture Scouts – Teal with minimal red text, these usually need money for vacations and stuff, 15 and up, can be any gender.

Sea Scouts – Dark blue and black, kind of like Venture Scouts in that they will need money for trips, not a lot of criteria found on these, look for older kids 15 and up, they’re pretty easy to spot and are usually found in states bordering the sea.

Any group of younger scouts should be accompanied by 1-2 adults, wearing tan and green, of any gender.

Trail Life colors change from time to time but cannot be too similar, right now look for dark red, black, and lighter green.

Trail Life consists of a very small percentage of former Boy Scouts who are “taking a stand” against the ruling that gay kids can get their Eagle and be scout leaders. It is also not a coincidence that you very rarely see anyone but white men in this group. Don’t buy anything from them, don’t even talk to them, they no longer represent any part of Boy Scouts. In my troop, we commonly referred to them as the Westboro Baptist of BSA.

Man I’ve had a hard enough time reconciling my good experiences and my genuine joy at becoming an Eagle Scout with the knowledge of the inherent conservatism of the BSA

And now you tell me they’ve got their own god damned alt right
