Because I remember disinformation being spread around the last election and I’m sure Russia will bring it back:

  • YOU CAN’T VOTE ONLINE.
  • YOU CAN’T VOTE FROM YOUR PHONE.
  • IN MANY STATES THERE ARE LEGAL CONSEQUENCES FOR PHOTOGRAPHING YOUR BALLOT.
  • DO NOT WEAR CAMPAIGN GEAR TO THE POLLS.
  • DO NOT TRY TO PERSUADE PEOPLE TO VOTE FOR A CANDIDATE AT THE POLLS.
  • DO NOT ENGAGE IN ANY KIND OF POLITICAL DISCOURSE AT THE POLLS.
  • NO ELECTION IS EVER A SURE THING, EVEN IF YOU’RE IN THE BLUEST OR REDDEST OF STATES.  IF SOMEONE TRIES TO TELL YOU THAT YOU CAN SIT THIS ONE OUT, THEY ARE EITHER IGNORANT OR MALICIOUS.
  • VOTE.

if anyone asks me where my sense of humor comes from im just gonna show them the 90s sailor moon dub

Fffffffffff

I haven’t seen the dub in so long that I literally thought this was fans dubbing bs like an abridged series. And then I heard Usagi and Luna’s voices. And I just knew…

“This is the end of the road for your COUSIN here” 💀 forgot about that too

I honestly really wanna know who translated and wrote the dialogue for the dub. Cuz on the one hand there are so many lines that were clearly fudged and not in the Japanese. But on the other hand those lines are both the best and the worst

TIL in 2012 the largest breast cancer foundation in the United States, Susan G Komen, attempted to withdraw funding for Planned Parenthood for mammograms, the diagnostic and screening tool for breast cancer.

via reddit.com

this is a good time to remind people that susan g komen is an awful breast cancer research foundation and you’d be better off donating to places like the breast cancer research foundation instead

It’s almost October, which these monsters have deemed their month, so please keep this in mind, too. Thanks.

I see a lot of progressive young people get angry when propaganda for perspectives they agree with is debunked. Back in 2016 I had a lot of people accuse me of supporting Trump because I pointed out that the photo of his parents wearing Klan robes was photoshopped. Obviously I didn’t support Trump, but as far as I’m concerned, it’s best to base your opinions about the world on things that are true and not things that are lies.

It’s important to remember that every single political and social movement produces artificial propaganda. Even the most pure and righteous cause will have supporters creating fake bullshit or manipulating to inspire pathos and conform to a convenient narrative. Try not to fall for it. Many absolutely outrageous claims turn out to be true, while many others turn out to be fabrications designed to sway opinions or undermine the credibility of a movement by introducing seductive fictions. Critical thinking is good. Suspicion is not a sin. The fact that something “feels” true is not real supporting evidence.

Isn’t this the dude who makes a bunch of bullshit up and gets really mad when people speculate/call him out for lying and saying he remembers his birth or could fully articulate sentences at 6 months?

I share weird anecdotes from my experiences working at a summer camp and growing up as a living history reenactor. They doubtless seem implausible to anyone who is not familiar with the sheer weirdness of both environments. I also write them in a fairly narrative style and do not post photos of children in my care, because providing proof of amusing encounters to inconsequential strangers is less important to me than children’s privacy. Also, many people dislike me, which creates a bias against even my most mundane anecdotes.

I did once mention that, as a baby, I was reportedly able to describe the experience of being born to my parents. I made the grave sin of not cross-checking my age with both parents. My dad shares my inability to judge infants’ ages and I do not trust the details of his memory, so I am not certain of the age I began speaking or the age I told them about being born. I do not remember the events myself, as I was a literal actual baby and am now an adult, but I do not think my parents would have invented this story out of nowhere. I think you can guess why I cannot provide proof of this story without the help of a time machine.

Weird stories from my childhood and personal life aren’t quite in the same ballpark as fake news and political propaganda, but whatever.

Ok but… Even if you don’t like someone personally that doesn’t make everything they say irrelevant or wrong…? This post is literally just about how being aware and critical of propaganda is good. Which is true. The whole reason for the far right’s insistence on fake news is cuz they consume lots of propaganda and believe what feels true/what they want to be true despite the actual, verified facts and evidence to the contrary. There are more than enough factual reasons for why Trump and his administration are unethical, abusive, and corrupt, without even needing to falsify photos or lie. Feelings are valid and make up a lot of our individual realities, but we should also be grounded in facts and truth.

Underlined PSA

Figment, the recently closed writing website, has just launched (after a long delay) their long-awaited successor to figment known as Underlined, where users can post their work and receive feedback, supposedly.

DO NOT USE UNDERLINED. DO NOT POST YOUR WORK ON UNDERLINED.

Underlined’s terms and conditions contains a clause stating that the rights to all your work that you post on their website belongs to them!!!!

Underlined belongs to Penguin Random House. This is an extremely dirty trick for them to play on writers, especially young writers and children, who come to the internet to get feedback and will lose the rights to their work. Please boost!!!

For my writing friends looking for an online writing community, DO NOT USE Underlined.

I went to confirm @greater-than-the-sword‘s post, because seriously publishers are still pulling this garbage?  And yes, they are.  If you want to check out the full terms and conditions, have at it.  They are full of writers’ nightmares, a few of which I’ll highlight under the cut.

Be aware guys

As someone who used to use Figment, I would really strongly recommend NOT using Underlined. DO NOT USE Underlined.

A note to all the writers out there

Some
people don’t understand how big this is, opening a school, especially a
public one is a huge undertaking and even with LeBron money it’s
costly.

It’s really nice to see black
celebs and athletes actually show their support for the community,
rather than sparing a few words about it.

Please reblog if you know anyone who might take party drugs.

this is so important

Also important information: A cop cannot arrest you for something you already took. You can tell a cop to his face that you just injected black tar heroin in your veins and as long as you don’t currently have any on you (including things like syringes or residue in a pipe), there’s fuck all he can do about it.

I take police reports for a living. The number of people who will happily tell someone “Well officer, this fight started because I smoked crack cocaine earlier,” is astounding and also not at all illegal. The criminal charge is for Possession of a Controlled Substance. If you don’t possess any at the time, there’s no crime. The only thing you can get dinged for is if you’re actively on a drug and driving, in which case – DUI.

Please, please, please tell EMTs what you took. They’re not going to rat you out to the cops and even if they did, you will still be okay.

Spreading the word, being honest with paramedics and doctors can save your life
