As I have often observed before, when it comes to language, people seem to think they can just make stuff up. Even patently absurd claims about language elicit no fact-checking. Editors limply allow any kind of nonsense to flow into print. I’ve pointed this out in journalism about artificial intelligence and robots, and especially about language in gorillas and orcas and dolphins and dogs and various other species. But in all my years of reading such absurd claims, I’ve never seen anything like the recent article by Charles Hymas, published on September 16 in the National Post, a fairly conservative Canadian newspaper. (The Telegraph also ran the story in Britain, behind a paywall — they will charge you money for this balderdash!)
Hymas reports that “two of the original architects of social media,” namely Aza Raskin (a feature designer and programmer who invented the endless scroll) and Britt Selvitelle (an early engineer at Twitter), are on the brink of “using artificial intelligence to create a translation system that will understand what animals are saying and what they think of us.” Raskin and Selvitelle claim to have “analyzed 70 human languages to establish that all have a universal ‘shape,’ such that a computer can translate one into the other without any prior understanding or knowledge” (emphasis added).

edit: I apologize for my ignorance I have heard of the xxy Klinefelters syndrome and Turners syndrome but that stuff is rare so like 🤷
“oh there are intersex people with atypical sex chromosomes, but that stuff is rare so like they don’t really matter” To that point, why should anyone have to divulge their extremely personal health information, so that self-important transphobes can judge what their “true gender” is? The science is not on your side. Biology and culture have never been as strict as defining things solely by sex organs and chromosomes, and certainly not in binary terms. Not in humans, not in any other species. In fact, adherence to strict sex/gender binaries has repeatedly been the cause of impeded scientific progress, and inaccurate research. Not to mention inaccurate anthropological theories, and historical research that proved false. It has never helped us. High school health and bio drastically simplify things (even undergrad level bio classes do), cuz a) it’s too complicated to get into in those classes, b) governments benefit from tailoring what the majority of future generations learn, to make them more compliant to the country’s cultural/social norms (aka hegemony), and prevent critical thinking that may go against those norms, c) in North American countries at least, admitting that people aren’t defined by their chromosomes and genitalia means that we’d also have to acknowledge that indigenous first Nations cultures were/are valid (due to the existence of nonbinary/gnc genders across multiple first Nations cultures), which is a problem when one is trying to sweep indigenous people under the rug in order to cover up continuous institutional neglect and abuse, and champion Western society as “civilizing” and “improving” the world. Trans/ngc people have always existed, and in societies all over the world, were/are seen as valid and integrated into society. To ignore that is not only transphobic, but racist and colonialist. If “traditional” Western concepts of gender are the only valid ones, you erase, invalidate, and subjugate the existence of all of those other living cultures, in favor of Western superiority (and by implication, western value on misapplied science/pseudoscience that supports social norms and preconceptions). I hope I don’t have to explain why thats awful. And not least of all, the terrible impact all this has on living, loving, breathing, existing, human trans people.

Porn bots often have real looking usernames. The reason for this is because those usernames once belonged to real users. Bots hijack usernames as soon as it becomes available (Usernames become available if you change your username or delete your blog). They do this because the username (domain name) has more ‘authority’ than a complete new username. Porn bots rank higher in Google and other search engines because of this higher authority. It also makes them look more real.
But don’t be deceived. Let’s purge those bots!
How to tell if a blog is a bot:
First go see who follows you on Tumblr.
A blog is a porn bot when:
their profile picture is ‘sexy’ (and sometimes their username and description are the same)
They have links on their blog (if they follow you and have links: 10000% bot)
*Do not report empty blogs. There is nothing to report them for and chances are they are normal users that don’t use Tumblr after they created an account.
How to purge a porn bot

Click on the pawn/human icon
Click ‘Report’ –> ‘Report spam’ (do not report for sensitive content; porn is allowed on Tumblr)
